Jefferson County
I was able to find the donkey shown below thanks to Jeff Happe who gave me directions to it. He found it literally by
walking into it. In its current position, that is the only way to come across it by accident. The sleds are mostly burried
with branches and such that they are near impossible to photograph. Also, the roof of this machine was either ripped
off, or just rotted enough that it fell to the side. Unfortunately, due to the high threat of vandalism, I'm not going to
reveal its location. This donkey does appear to be an older model Washington Iron Works model that was converted
from steam to gasoline power. It was last used in a cat style logging operation, and was left behind at the end of the
logging. As you can see, the machine number is 1335. All photos (2008)
A view of the fairlead and a bracket at the front of the sled.
As you can see from the nearly disintegrated fan on the motor, this donkey has been sitting out for quite some time.
